Planning: Questionnaires and Graphs

My group decided on our final idea and decided to collect some Primary Research. We made a Questionnaire which asks questions which talk about the love of the alternative R&B genre, What the actors and artist should look like, what narrative should be seen, the pace of the editing, the use of every micro element and the audiences own opinion on different elements of the music video.
This is our Questionnaire:

Graphs

After we collected all the responses from our questionnaire we created graphs to portray the data. Below are the graphs that we created to show the evidence and the audiences opinions.

Open Ended responses

When you think of alternative R&B music, what do you vision?

Most people generally said that they visualise an attractive artist and sexually appealing characters who are associated with wealth through expensive locations, and iconography. They also said they expect the ethnicity of the artist to be from a black ethnic background. These typical conventions are perceived in most or all alternative R&B music videos, therefore, we are going to challenge these conventions by making our characters and music video different.

How do you think an artist from the alternative R&B genre should be portrayed?

The audience generally responded to this question by suggesting that an artist from the alternative R&B genre should be portrayed as a young individual that the audience can relate to. They should have attitude and style that makes them appealing to the audience, and should portray their morals and values. This response has been beneficial for my group as we will now be able to present the artist in a different way, with her persona being quite secretive making her a mysterious character at the beginning of the music video, presenting her morals. However, towards the end of the music video, the female artist will be presented as relatable as the audience want.

1       What kind of lifestyle do you think that artist should portray in their music videos?

The responses were generally made up of people suggesting that the artist should portray a different kind of lifestyle, one that differs from the mainstream lifestyle, that we experience on a daily basis. Therefore, we will ensure our artist portrays this type of unconventional lifestyle in our music video.

What iconography/objects do you think should be included within an alternative R&B music video? (No more than 3 answers)

The audience generally replied to this question saying that they would expect to see money, cars, jewellery. Therefore, we will ensure we include some expensive iconography in particular scenes. However, as we are challenging stereotypes we will also go against the conventional iconography and instead choose different things.

What colour costume do you think a female artist in an alternative R&B music video should wear?

They respondents generally claimed that the female artist should wear something dark, to make her look mysterious but also not exaggerated, portraying her as a role model. As a result, we will take this into consideration and ensure that the artist wears something simple that portrays her as a role model rather than a star. However, as she is associated with the narrative, she will also wear a costume according the her character.

Conclusion:

Overall, the responses we received allowed us to find out what the audience want and therefore we will adapt our idea to meet their needs. We will ensure that we make the music video conventional but also original and modern. therefore, we will take risks to make our music video successful. The questionnaire has been beneficial for my group as we now feel more confident about our idea and our target audience. Therefore, this planning process will be beneficial in the long run.

  1. Proficient planning here. Good questionnaire into your existing idea to try to draw upon feedback from your intended target audience. A good variety of questions and feedback well displayed.

    To improve;
-first page of your questionnaire? Include this
-where you have included your graphs, think about what key decisions your findings have helped you make
